An overview of services for composite objects

This replaces the earlier overview of technical projects at CHS: phase 2, services using resources other than texts

While a vast range of objects scholars refer to may be cited using the conventions of either CTS or Collections Services, some objects are only useful when additional, specialized manipulation is possible.

Image processing services

Image processing services can be used to add functions for manipulating binary image data to a Collection Service. Image processing services work with images using unique identifiers that might be discovered by querying a Collection Service, but they allow operations such as scaling images or adjusting image brightness.

(See more information about Image Processing Services.)

GIS

For spatial or geographic information, clearly defined and thoroughly thought-out standards for network services have been defined by the Open Geospatial Consortium. We plan to adopt the Web Map Service and Web Feature Service. (All OGC standards are available at http://www.opengeospatial.org/specs/?page=specs.)
