Inventory of extant texts

Content

The project is inventoring all extant Greek texts that were:

1. produced between the invention of the Greek alphabet and (very approximately) 300 C.E.
2. transmitted by manuscript copying

Structure

The inventory of extant texts follows the Canonical Text Services' conventions for a TextInventory, and is available here as an XML file validating against the CTS TextInventory schema, but includes a linked XSLT file to format the data for reading in a Web browser. (If you are browsing on an iPhone or other mobile device, you can see an alternate view of the Homer Multitext Project's identically formatted inventory: in the future, we will include transformations to display the First Thousand Years inventory in a similar display.)

Current state

The inventory of text groups and works is complete for works in verse. We have additional information about editions that are cataloged by the TLG project, the Perseus Project, and for the Iliad and scholia to the Iliad, we have further information contributed by the Homer Multitext Project inventorying:

• all manuscripts of the Iliad cataloged in Allen's editio maior
• all manuscripts with an scholia to the Iliad cataloged in Erbse's edition of the scholia vetera.
