Subproject: Digitization of the Venetus A
We are preparing to resume our communication with Susy Marcon to finalize our agreement with the Marciana Library and schedule stages 2 and 3 shortly upon completion of their renovation project in Spring 2007.
We now want to take the opportunity and work on stage 1, that will allow us to compile the necessary equipment, ensure its functionality, as well as to finalize the imaging protocols. We are aiming to meet at the Center in DC on the week of November 6.
As David is kindly clarifying, "the main aim of Stage 1 is to:
a) Optimise the equipment, set it all up, make sure it is al compatible and most importantly works together. Be no good turning up in Venice to find we have equipment problems or items are not compatible, you cannot totally go by on manufactures specifications that equipment is what the spec says and does do what they say it will do.
b) Confirm imaging specifications – CHS , Marciana and Conservation may have different requirements
c) Setting up the work flow and space requirements – in Venice the team will be working an a very confined space once the book cradle is set up – it would be very useful to know the precise dimension of the room in the library that will be used for the imaging (including the window dimensions) and where the power out lets and how many. Once again it would be very bad news to find out when we got to Venice that the book cradle, all our equipment and the team would not fit in the room and we do not have enough power points ! Also access to the room is restricted through narrow door ways, stairs and book stacks. This was one of the major reasons for a visit to Venice this autumn to plan out the work space and physical access for the equipment. *
d) Team structure – who will be doing what
e) Meeting at CHS to finalize and sign agreements with Marciana representatives Marino Zorzi and Susy Marcon and for them to meet the imaging project team
f) Brent to bring his equipment to CHS to test in ‘virtual flatting and 3D imaging to add extra value to the imaging project by making a interact DVD
So what we do need in place for Stage 1 is the equipment and items need for imaging, image storage and environmental monitoring – camera, lights , PC, software, data loggers, image storage, test out metadata , image storage hard drives."
