- Nov. 17-18, 2006: Technical Group meeting at CHS. Participants: Lenny Muellner, Neel Smith, Chris Blackwell, Gabe Weaver, Robert Kummer, Andrew Gollan. The group defined detailed plans for implementation of CTS version 2. A checklist of milestones is available here. Detailed information about each step and release versions of work will be posted on Digital Incunabula as they are available, with announcements posted to the CHS tech. group "Update Blog." - Nov. 8-10, 2006: Venetus A Photography Meeting at CHS. Over the course of this week David Jacobs from the British Library and his colleague Chris tested out a single shot camera using the Comparetti facsimile of the Venetus A. Brent Seales from U. of Kentucky was also there to show them some of his work with virtual flattening. It was provisionally determined that the Sinar camera (a single shot camera which produced images of approximately 20MB) would not be sufficient for our needs, as there was significant pixellation (sp?) of the smallest scholia at that resolution. We also determined that both virtual flattening and multispectral imaging (infrared) would be very helpful if the Marciana will allow it. This does not seem to be possible if we go with the Sinar system of the Basel team. However, we are waiting to hear more from Lukas Rosenthaler about the capabilities of their system. Our other option is to go with the scanning back camera, with which the British Library and other institutions typically capture images in the range of 200MB and up. Other major topics of discussion at the meeting were the logistics of the room set up, environmental monitoring, necessary equipment, the structure of the team, and the steps that we need to take to put everything in place before Spring, including ordering the cradle from Manfred Myer. Lenny and Chris Blackwell will lead a delegation to Venice in January to finalize our agreement with the Marciana. A subgroup discussed the printed volume that we will produce for our sponsor. Last but not least, the question of metadata and standards for it was discussed. Chris Blackwell will follow up with David Jacobs and the rest of the group on this. At the meeting, Chris was designated the "digital manager" for the project. In attendance at the meeting were Casey Dué, Mary Ebbott, Jack Mitchell, Chris Blackwell, Graeme Bird, Lenny Muellner, Zoie Lafis, Michael Horsley, David Jacobs, Brent Saeles, and David's colleague Chris Collins.
