Host your texts on Google in a day

Overview

The Center For Hellenic Studies will conduct a one-day workshop at the Center's Washington, D.C., campus, on Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, with the subject: “Host your texts on Google in a day.” Bring one or more XML texts to the workshop in the morning, and leave in the afternoon with a running Google installation of Canonical Text Services serving your texts to the internet. The workshop will be led by Neel Smith, Christopher Blackwell and Gabriel Weaver, the principal developers of the CHS's Canonical Text Services protocol.

Proposed schedule (subject to modification)

Morning session 1 (9:00-10:15)

10:15-10:30: coffee break

Morning session 2: (10:30-12:00)

At this point, you have a running text service installed on Google!

Lunch at CHS: 12:30-1:30

Afternoon session 2 (1:30-2:30)

Afternoon session 2 : open lab (2:30-4:30)

The three workshop leaders will work with small groups of 2-4 participants, grouped together based on the kinds of modifications each wants to make to the generic CTS service. Before the end of the afternoon, you can already begin to adapt your Google application to the specific needs of your project.

Applying

There is no charge for the workshop, but space is limited. (We will consider repeating the workshop in the summer of 2010 if the number of applications is more than we can accept in January.) It is possible that a small number of rooms may be available on the CHS campus for out of town participants.
